This page sets out what the information on spinacountry.com is good for and what it is not. It is deliberately specific. A disclaimer that says only “we make no warranty as to accuracy” protects the site and tells you nothing, so the sections below name the actual limits of the actual numbers you will find here.

What this site is

spinacountry.com is an independent reference and entertainment site about world geography. It publishes a guide for each of the 250 countries and territories in its dataset, plus wheels, quizzes and generators built on the same data. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any government, the United Nations, or any mapping or statistics agency.

Where the data comes from

Country reference fields — names, capitals, ISO codes, borders, regions, currencies, official languages, populations and land areas — are compiled from public datasets, chiefly the REST Countries dataset, which itself draws on United Nations and World Bank figures. Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap contributors. Flag artwork is public-domain SVG. The About page describes the editorial process in full, including how refreshes are diffed before they go live.

Populations and areas are estimates, not measurements

Every population figure on this site is an estimate produced by a statistical agency, not a headcount taken on the day you read the page. National censuses run years apart, some countries have not held one recently, and the figures for small territories can swing by a large percentage on a small absolute change. Numbers are rounded for readability: a page reading 17.2 million is not claiming precision to the nearest person.

The same applies to land area, which varies between sources depending on whether inland water, tidal zones and disputed land are counted. Rankings derived from these figures — largest, smallest, most populous, most neighbours — inherit that uncertainty. Where two countries sit close together in a ranking, treat the order as indicative rather than settled.

Counts depend on who is counting

There is no single correct answer to how many countries exist. This site describes 250 entries because that is the scope of its dataset, which includes 193 UN member states alongside observer states, dependencies and overseas territories. Quizzes that test capital cities use only the 193 UN members, because that is the set where a single official capital is uncontroversial. A different site with a different scope will give you a different total, and neither is wrong. We wrote about why.

Borders, names and political status

Place names, border descriptions and statements of political status follow common international usage. Where sovereignty is disputed, pages describe the dispute and who recognises what rather than declaring a winner. Nothing on this site is intended as a legal or political claim about any territory, and the inclusion or omission of a place implies no position on its status.

Not professional advice

Nothing here is travel, visa, immigration, legal, medical, financial, safety or security advice. Do not plan a trip on the strength of a page on this site. Before travelling, check your own government’s current travel advisory, the destination’s official visa requirements, and current health guidance — all of which change faster than a reference page can, and all of which are authoritative in a way that this site is not.

Randomness and the tools

The wheels, pickers and generators use your browser’s built-in random number generator with a Fisher–Yates shuffle. That is fair for games and for picking a country to read about. It is not cryptographically secure, and it must not be used for anything where the outcome carries real consequences — gambling, prize draws, legal selection, allocation of anything of value. Use a purpose-built, auditable system for those.

This is the part we mean most. If a figure looks wrong, a capital is out of date, a flag is the wrong artwork or a sentence reads as a political claim, email qasimkhan656655@gmail.com with the page and what you believe the correct information is. Corrections are checked against the upstream source and, when confirmed, applied across every page that uses that field rather than patched on the one page you spotted.
